The Living Voice: Preaching Christ in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence has changed the landscape almost overnight. It can write essays, answer theological questions, summarize commentaries, and even generate sermons. Information has never been more accessible, or more abundant. Yet this technological revolution also presses the Church to ask a deeply theological question: What is it that Christ has entrusted to pastors that no machine can ever replicate?

Luther described the ministry of the gospel as the viva vox evangelii, the living voice of the Gospel. Christ does not merely distribute information. He speaks. Through the preaching of his Word, the Holy Spirit creates faith, forgives sins, strengthens weary consciences, and gathers his Church around the Means of Grace. That living proclamation remains as irreplaceable today as it was in the apostolic Church.

Our conference will explore why confessional Lutheran preaching is not simply relevant in the age of artificial intelligence, but uniquely equipped for it. Together we will reflect on the enduring wisdom of the Lutheran Confessions, the vocation of the preacher, and the privilege of proclaiming Christ crucified in a culture increasingly shaped by artificial voices but desperately longing for the living voice of the Good Shepherd.
